Collecting John Pickford: An era has come to an end

Just a short update to let you know that an era is coming to an end. Otherworld Miniatures (OW) is closing.

Back in November 2023, Richard Scott (Funder of Otherworld Miniatures) announced that he would be retiring in the summer of 2024. An era is now ending.

WORDS OF GRATITUDE

---------------

"For my, OW was the main reason for returning to this hobby of mine. It was with Otherworld I learned about the great talent of Mr. John Pickford (and others) and to be proud of retro-looking, old school miniatures, again.

To my eye, John's job with OW was the job that lifted him from 'just another miniature sculptor' till one of the absolute best fantasy hand sculpting sculptors (if not the best). The combination of Richard Scott's high ambitions and courage and John's enormous talent they have moved the limits of what can/and can not be done, miniature wise.

So thank you, Richard! Thank you for all the magnificent and beautiful miniatures over the years. It has been such a great pleasure following the growing of Otherworld and to see, how you have evolved into one of the best miniature manufacturers. You've done such a great job for our hobby. You've done an excellent job and many of your miniatures have really made my life a lot happier.

I'm wishing you all the best for your retirement."

---------------

So, the time is now. Richard has just announced that he is about to close down the Otherworld Miniatures webstore. He has been running a series of overstock sales on selected products this spring, but it’s now time to extend that sale to everything that’s left in his stock room.

Unfortunately many items are already out of stock, but there are still some bargains to be found.

Not much Pickfords left, I'm affraid. But if you find something you like, used the code "Solongandthanks" to get a 50% discount.

Go, have a look at Otherworld Miniatures

And, I was lucky to secure myself a Purple Worm v2. I saw Richards November-update a bit late, but contacted him regarding the Worm. Luckily, he had a few left, not at a discounted price, though - but I'm still very happy to have added this last official Pickford piece to my complete Pickford-Otherworld collection, before it was to late.

It's rather a stunning stunning piece, but also rather BIG - wonder what to use it for. An Ewal Dvergr Wormrider? 😁

The good news is, that the Otherworld Miniatures range seems to end up in the hands of new owners. The majority of the range has already found new homes, but Richard is still looking for new owners for the rest of the models. And Richard has promised he will publish a full list of the line’s new owners as soon as he is am able to.
However, Karl @Crooked Dice has already revealed, that he has picked up a lot of the adventurers and the NPCs ranges. Plus a couple of monsters. And he has already released: Ghouls, Shadows and Troglodytes.

However, a lot of John's work already shifted hands back in 2018 when Richard gave the Otherworld range a major overhaul. Back then, I made a list of the new homes of Pickford's OW stuff. The list can be found on the Colleting John Pickford-wiki - here. I'll try and keep it updated, if more new homes are found.

And speaking of the wiki - I'd given it a lot of attention, lately. A lot of new pictures has been added to the White Knight, TAG, OldSchoolMiniatures, Ewal Clam, Crooked Dice and Otherworld Miniatures sections to document Johns beautiful work.

Please, go take a look:

  1. Nice one. I’m sure Richard will be very happy to read your tribute to Otherworld. It has been quite a ride, hasn’t it?

P.S. Your wiki looks like a real labour of love. Bookmarked for future reference.

    1. Thank you. Yes, Otherworld has a special place in my heart, that's for sure. The Pickford-wiki has become a hobby within the hobby. I really struggle painting due to my eyesight, so collecting and documenting Johns work has really been the hobby for me, lately.
